CARD# HPJ-2014-49: Saengil Chukahaeyo

I guess most of the people who stumble upon my posts on Facebook or wherever think that I only make feminine cards which are mostly vintage or something that has a distressed look about them. Well, the majority of my close friends ARE girls and the orders I get are usually FOR girls so that's that. Besides I love using paper flowers and masculine cards are really a challenge.

For this particular commission, I was asked to make a birthday card. It was to be a trishutter card and vintage is a no no. It was to be blue and monster themed. The recipient, as I was told, was fun and adventurous. They wanted it to be similar to the one I made for Ayen a few years back. It was a blue dutchfold card with touches of green here and there. Here is what it looked like:

 

 The card measures 4" x 5.5" when closed.

I thought of adding other colors to it as well to make the card lively and fun. Of course I did not adhere all the papers down until I received approval to proceed.

This is what the card looks like when it is spread on the table without the embellishments. I had to take care of the background first before putting in the decorations.

This is when the embellishments were added.

Hey there little guy! Heh. It's the little monster on a die cut. I had to affix all the embellishments that needed to go on top of the die cut first before adhering the whole thing onto the front of the card.

This die has become one of my staples in papercrafting. I used the second biggest in the set. I cut out another piece from a white cardstock to strengthen the patterned paper. I made all the parts for the embellishments. The monster is made of felt. I handstitched the outline of the body. I cut out a small triangle for his party hat and adhered a pompom at the tip.

The cupcake is composed of different bits of patterned paper. The balloon is also paper, but instead of drawing a string, I used a length of baker's twine.

I used a shoutout to show the sentiment. It's Happy Birthday in Korean. I wrote the sentiment with my felt pens.

I added two other cute monsters on the inside of the card. They are made of felt as well, but I just drew the details instead of sewing them. I did not put in a pompom because the right side of the card would not be level with the other side when closed. I added another shoutout on one panel.

As I have mentioned in my other posts, trishutter is the one special fold card that my customers are fond of. I don't blame them. Almost any design on a trishutter base looks wonderful. I am still feeling great about this card that I think I would make another trishutter card in a little while for my friend Daidai's birthday. Hmn. I really think I will. Most probably I would be posting the details on my tumblog, but I would also try to post the finished card here. I won't ramble. I promise.

CARD# 52: Christmas Wishes (Reblog From My Tumblr Blog)

It's now the fourth day of October. Christmas is so near. I haven't started with my Christmas preparation yet. I'll probably be in a panic soon. Haha.

This card is the first I made for the season this year. It is on the distressed/shabby side. I am planning to come up with several sets using different techniques. There will be the shabby/vintage set, a clean and simple one, a special fold (most probably a triangle trifold) and perhaps a mixed media set.

Going back to the card I posted here, I used the Kaisercraft Pickled Pear papers. I employed a lot of layering—from the background to the embellishment. I just love layers!

I adhered a piece of patterned paper from the collection inside the card and stamped the lower right part with something from the Kaisercraft Botanical Odyssey set.

For the main embellishment (the Christmas tree), I cut out bits of patterned paper and ran them through my Cuttlebug with a Spellbinders die. I snipped the die cuts into small pieces which I then layered onto a triangle cardstock. I added some leftover die cuts (the flourishes) from previous projects as well. I adhered a coupe of crystals onto the tree and affixed a snowflake charm at the top. 

I placed small pearls around the card. As for the sentiment, I stamped on a piece of patterned paper then cut the image out. I wrote 'Christmas Wishes' on it. 

The card comes with a matching box. The center is actually transparent. You can see the tree inside. I cut out a circle at the center of the lid and decorated it with a die cut (the same one I used for the card). I put in a piece of acetate behind for cover. I am quite happy with the result. It was my first time to create something like it. I think I am getting better with cutters. Haha.

I scattered some pearls outside the circle for additional embellishment.

I love the 'window' on the box. I might make more boxes with windows for the other sets.

CARD# HPJ-2014-48: Welcome to the World

Here is a simple nautical-themed baptism card.

The card measures 4.5" x 5.75".

I layered two patterned papers that had distressed edges and added a strip of paper of a slightly different shade from the first layer at the bottom.

I cut out a decorative circle using a Spellbinders die and adhered it onto the card with foam tape. I affixed the metal charm afterwards.

For the sentiment, I handwrote it on a stamped image of a banner I fuzzy cut. I searched online for a type of knot used in boating that I could incorporate into the card and came upon the Carrick Bend. It was simple and easy enough to do and so pretty at that.

I added several blue green crystals and some pearls as a finishing touch. I used two different papers for the inside panels and left them blank for the messages.

A white envelope came with the card. I placed a nautical lining to go with the theme.

CARD# HPJ-2014-47: Granny

For the lack of a 'creative' title, let's just go with Granny. 

The card measures 5.5" x 5.5".

What was needed for this order was a card with an image depicting a bent woman with a walking stick and a callout (thought bubble) saying,"Aaah. My back! I can't have class today." It was for my housemate's colleague and friend who they tease as a manang. 

My drawing skills suck, but I had to have an image. I found this cute digital stamp online and used it on this card. I forgot about the long curly hair before penning the drawing lines so the image looked a mess. I couldn't do it all over. I just stuck with it.

The edges of the card base and the main patterned paper as well as the second patterned paper were distressed and inked. I should have done the same thing to the image, but I don't know what I was thinking or if I was actually thinking at the time when I glued it down onto the black die cut. Man the focal point looked so clean. It should have been distressed! Gah. I should try to remember to do this next time.

I affixed some crystals and pearls here and there for added effect.

For the inside of the card, since 5 sheets were needed for the messages, I added the upper and lower panels of the card to the count. I only had to insert three sheets of paper through a thin band I made using a border edge punch to complete the five.

I thought I still have some left of a particular wrapping paper I bought from Papemelroti a few years back, but I didn't. I had no other option but to use one of the envelopes I made for Miss Karen's wedding invitation. It was the perfect size for the square card. I placed a piece of round clear vinyl sticker inside the envelope before packing the card to seal the envelope after they finish writing the messages. I no longer added any crystal inside the card so as not to make a certain mark on the paper.
